Entries

What are entries?

Entries are the entities that hold content to display on web pages, such as the homepage, a blog post, or a contact page. Entries belong to sections, and they use fields to store content.

Sections are the entities that contain entries. There are three types of sections:

What are fields?

Fields are the elements that store content, such as a text field, an image field, or a dropdown field. Entries will contain a particular set of fields based on the content that the entry requires. Some entries won't have any fields if the content is regimented by the template it uses. Other entries will have many fields, or use a module field, to provide more freedom.

How do I edit an entry?

Go to Craft > Entries. Find the entry in question, and click the title. You will be directed to the entry edit page. Use the field labels and descriptions to guide you through the process. Click the "Save" button at the top of the page when you are done.

How do I create a new entry?

Go to Craft > Entries. Go to the desired section in the sidebar, either singles, a channel, or a structure. Click the "New entry" button at the top of the page. You will be directed to the entry edit page where you can fill out all the information. Use the field labels and descriptions to guide you through the process. Click the "Save" button at the top of the page when you are done.

How do I save a draft of an entry?

While editing an entry, to the right of the save button is a down arrow that contains a menu for other saving options. Choose "Save as Draft" to save a draft.

How do I select a draft of an entry that has been created?

While editing an entry, click on the drop down menu next to the title at the top of the screen. Select the draft you want from this menu.

How do I preview a draft of an entry?

While editing an entry look for the "Share" button at the top of the screen. Clicking this button will give you a link to preview the entry.

How do I select a previously saved version of an entry?

While editing an entry, click on the drop down menu next to the title at the top of the screen. Select the version you want from this menu.

How do I select the current version of an entry?

While editing an entry, click on the drop down menu next to the title at the top of the screen. Select the "Current Version" item from this menu.


Modules

What are modules?

Modules are the building blocks of page content, such as text, images, videos, and banners. When you create a module in Craft, you simply enter in the content, and it will get formatted automatically. Modules can be added, removed, modified, and reordered at any time on the entry's edit page.

How do I see all the modules on an entry?

Go to the edit page for the entry in question. Find the field called "Modules", which may be in another tab. All of the modules are listed within this field.

How do I add a new module to an entry?

Go to the edit page for the entry in question. Find the field called "Modules", which may be in another tab. Click the "Add a block" button at the bottom of this field, and select the desired module from the dropdown menu. A new block will appear with fields in which you can enter in content. Use the field labels and descriptions to guide you through the process. Click the "Save" button at the top of the page when you are done.

How do I remove an existing module from an entry?

Go to the edit page for the entry in question. Find the field called "Modules", which may be in another tab. Find the module within this field. Click the gear icon at the top of the module, and select "Delete" from the dropdown menu. Click the "Save" button at the top of the page when you are done.

How do I modify an existing module in an entry?

Go to the edit page for the entry in question. Find the field called "Modules", which may be in another tab. Find the module within this field. All of the fields for this module are editable within this block. Click the "Save" button at the top of the page when you are done.

How do I reorder a module in an entry?

Go to the edit page for the entry in question. Find the field called "Modules", which may be in another tab. Find the module within this field. Click the handle icon at the top of the module, then drag-and-drop it into its new position. To make reordering easier, try collapsing modules first.

How do I expand and collapse modules when editing?

Click the gear icon at the top of the module, then select "Expand" or "Collapse" from the dropdown menu. You can also double click on the title bar at the top of the module to toggle between the two states.

How do I perform actions on multiple modules at once when editing?

Check the checkbox of each module you want to affect. Click the gear icon at the top of one of the modules, and select your desired action from the dropdown menu. All of the selected modules will be affected.


Assets

What are assets?

Assets are the files, images, and documents that are stored within Craft.

How can I see all assets?

Go to Craft > Assets All categories are listed on this page, by asset directory. Clicking on a directory will list all assets within that directory.

How can I view a single asset?

In Craft > Assets look for a globe icon to the right of your asset. This is a link to your asset.

How do I get a globe icon for viewing an asset?

If a globe icon is not present next to your asset, this will have to be turned on. In Craft > Assets look for a small gear under the list of directories available. Clicking this gear will bring up a modal window. Within this modal window you can check "Link" to be enabled per directory.

How do I replace an asset?

In Craft > Assets find the asset you want to replace. Select the asset you want to replace by enabling the check mark next to it, and find the "Gear" icon at the top of the screen. Clicking the "Gear" icon will reveal a menu, select "Replace Asset" from this menu.

How do I edit information on an asset?

In Craft > Assets find the asset you want to edit. Select the asset you want to replace by enabling the check mark next to it, and find the "Gear" icon at the top of the screen. Clicking the "Gear" icon will reveal a menu, select "Edit Asset" from this menu. Alternatively you can double click on the asset to bring up this same menu.

How do I bulk upload several assets?

In Craft > Assets find the directory you want to upload your assets to. Select this directory first, then select the "Upload Files" button in the upper right.


Categories

What are categories?

Categories are entry-like elements that can be applied to Assets, Categories, Entries, Users etc. Categories are always grouped by a Category Group.

What are category groups?

Category Groups are logical groupings of categories.

How do I make a new category group?

Category groups are established by development and not be created.

How do I see all the categories?

Go to Craft > Categories. All categories are listed on this page, by Category Group.

How can I edit a category?

Go to Craft > Categories. Find the category, and click on the title of it. You will be directed to the category edit page.

How do I make a new category?

Go to Craft > Categories and select the category group you wish to make a category in. Click the "New Category" button at the top of the page.

Is it safe to delete categories?

If you created the category it should be safe to delete the category. Removing a category that originated at site launch may be critical and deletion should be done at your own risk.


Users

What are users?

Users are accounts held within Craft CMS. These features are only available for Pro versions of Craft.

How do I see all users?

Go to Craft > Users. All users will be listed on this page.

How do I add a user?

In the top there is a "New User" button. Using the email provided the CMS will email the user a link to create their account.

How do I edit a users permissions?

Go to Craft > Users and click on the title of the user you want to edit. You will be directed to the user edit page. In this page click on the Permissions tab and select your permissions. Save your user once you are done.

Should I make all new users admins?

If you trust your users and want them to have the same permissions as your account, you can set them to be an admin. Admins have the ability to remove users and alter all parts of your site. No one admin is higher than another. Proceed with caution.

How do I remove a user?

Go to Craft > Users and find the user you want to replace. Select the user you want to replace by enabling the check mark next to it and hit the "Gear" button at the top part of the screen. This will reveal a menu that has the "Delete..." option. When a user is deleted their content may be transfered to another user.

How do I suspend a user?

Go to Craft > Users and find the user you want to replace. Select the user you want to replace by enabling the check mark next to it and hit the "Gear" button at the top part of the screen. This will reveal a menu that has the "Suspend" option.


Globals

What are globals?

Globals are pieces of information that are globally available to all pages. Examples of this are the website's utility area, navigation or footer area.
