Director of Food & Nutrition

Josh Perkins began cooking at home at a young age and never looked back, progressing through 20 years of restaurant work as a chef, degrees in sustainable agriculture and culinary arts, and 10 years in scratch-made prepared foods for a large and expanding natural and organic foods market in his hometown of Madison, WI. Josh became involved in school food as a parent volunteer, teaching culinary classes and founding a volunteer-led farm-to-school snack group, then took a career turn into school food full-time when he became a regional executive chef for K-12 schools in the Midwestern and Southern Central States.

Today, Josh leads a team of managers and cooks in 52 schools in Madison, engaging students and families in discussion on what foods are most appealing and meaningful to them and finding ways to keep moving menus further and further toward freshly prepared and locally grown foods. When not at work, Josh loves to play the banjo, run, and spend time with his family.

Who We Are

The Chef Ann Foundation is dedicated to promoting whole-ingredient, scratch-cooking in schools. Scratch-cooking enables schools to serve the healthiest, tastiest meals so that kids are well-fed and ready to learn.

Our Mission

Ensure that school food professionals have the resources, funding and support they need to provide fresh, healthy, delicious, cook from scratch meals that support the health of children and our planet.

Why School Food Matters

American kids start their life-path in K-12 schools where they learn the skills necessary to thrive & meet their potential. While the country debates the best ways to teach them math, science & English, we spend little to no time on food & nutrition.
