Coleen joined CAF in October 2022 as Senior School Food Operations Specialist.

A graduate of The Culinary Institute of America, Chef Coleen has enjoyed an extensive career in professional kitchens and experienced many facets of the industry. She has served as executive chef, restaurateur, private chef and chef instructor. Her experience in School Food began in 2000 when Chef Ann Cooper invited her to join the culinary team at the Ross School, a private school in East Hampton, NY. The work was uniquely challenging and rewarding. It became even more so when her focus shifted to schools participating in the National School Lunch Program. She has worked with Chef Ann and her teams to convert many districts in the country to a healthy and sustainable model utilizing scratch cooking.

From 2011-2022 Coleen worked with InHarvest, a premium rice and grains company as their K-12 Culinary Specialist. There, she worked with school nutrition operators across the country to find whole grain solutions that satisfy the USDA guidelines and appeal to kids of all ages.

Originally from New York, Coleen has called San Francisco home since 2007. She loves to travel and will go anywhere rumored to have good food and art.

American kids start their life-path in K–12 schools where they learn the skills necessary to thrive & meet their potential. While the country debates the best ways to teach them math, science & English, we spend little to no time on food & nutrition.
