Coordinator of Research & Evaluation

Gavin previously worked for the “Dark Side” as the head of Alaska’s Child Nutrition Programs (a state agency), overseeing school and community nutrition programs. Building on the success of the Baylor Collaborative on Hunger and Poverty’s Meals to You Summer Food for Children Demonstration Project, he oversaw the implementation of the Meals to You Alaska demonstration project in which a Summer Food Service Program partner mailed breakfast and lunch meals to rural Alaskan children. Gavin is passionate about delivering high-quality, nutritious meals to America’s school children, especially in small and rural schools that have fewer economies of scale to leverage.

Gavin earned his MBA in Business Analytics and Business Intelligence from the University of Alaska Anchorage and his BBA from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the place where you get a degree even though the campus has negative forty degrees.

Tiring of the bitter cold winters, Gavin became a “troll” and moved to tropical southeast Michigan (a state just as great as Alaska; in fact, four out of five great lakes choose Michigan). Outside of work, Gavin enjoys travel, computers, and reading.

Who We Are

The Chef Ann Foundation is dedicated to promoting whole-ingredient, scratch-cooking in schools. Scratch-cooking enables schools to serve the healthiest, tastiest meals so that kids are well-fed and ready to learn.

Our Mission

Ensure that school food professionals have the resources, funding and support they need to provide fresh, healthy, delicious, cook from scratch meals that support the health of children and our planet.

Why School Food Matters

American kids start their life-path in K–12 schools where they learn the skills necessary to thrive & meet their potential. While the country debates the best ways to teach them math, science & English, we spend little to no time on food & nutrition.
