Government of the District of Columbia

Tariq Sheriff, MPH, is a former Chef and experienced food policy professional working at the nexus of food systems, sustainability, and equity.

He spearheads the creation and implementation of programs and strategies which increase amenity-rich neighborhoods to address inequitable food access. Prior to this role, he worked with the DC Food Policy Director and was responsible for implementing the policy agenda, commitments to international cooperative agreements, and served as an advisor for food system resiliency and programming, supporting the city’s COVID-19 emergency food response. As a Chef, Tariq led the food production operations at DC Central Kitchen and was responsible for over 6000 daily scratch-cooked meals for public and charter schools, shelters, and childcare centers.

Alongside his advocacy and operations work, Tariq is an Aspen Institute Food Leaders Fellow, serves on the District’s Food Policy Council, and the Executive Committee of the DC Good Food Purchasing Coalition.

Tariq resides in the Washinton DC area with his wife and daughter and is a proud girl dad.

Who We Are

The Chef Ann Foundation is dedicated to promoting whole-ingredient, scratch-cooking in schools. Scratch-cooking enables schools to serve the healthiest, tastiest meals so that kids are well-fed and ready to learn.

Our Mission

Ensure that school food professionals have the resources, funding and support they need to provide fresh, healthy, delicious, cook from scratch meals that support the health of children and our planet.

Why School Food Matters

American kids start their life-path in K–12 schools where they learn the skills necessary to thrive & meet their potential. While the country debates the best ways to teach them math, science & English, we spend little to no time on food & nutrition.
